Press release: Collective Management Organisations put the Copyright Directive’s words into action

The new Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market was published on 17 May 2019 and Member States have to implement it by 7 June 2021. It establishes a principle of proportionate remuneration so that audiovisual authors can share in the economic success of their works (Art 18), sets out provisions strengthening authors’ bargaining power and fair treatment (Art 19-22) and creates obligations on content-sharing platforms. By creating a level playing field for all parties in the cultural and creative sectors, the Directive will help our industries to adapt and thrive online and global environment of the 21st century.
